Planning a trip to Walt Disney World? You'll want to be aware of some major changes Disney has made this year. They've introduced several exciting updates, enhancing the guest experience and offering even more flexibility and options for visitors.
Keeping up with all the exciting updates and changes at Walt Disney World can be a challenge, but that's where we come in. As Disney fanatics, we love sharing the latest news and helping you plan your next magical adventure.
Changes to Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes
Starting on July 24th, Disney has rebranded its Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes. The Genie+ is now known as Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass. With these changes, you can:
Make Lightning Lane plans before arriving at the parks.
Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, ensuring you know what you’re getting.
Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day.
Lightning Lane Multi-Pass: When purchasing the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, you can make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a park before your visit. You can also choose available times as you make your selections. On the day of your visit, once you use a selection, you can make another one based on availability on the My Disney Experience app.
Lightning Lane Single Pass: The Lightning Lane Single Pass will work similarly to its predecessor but with the added advantage of pre-purchase and planning in advance.
Planning Ahead: Guests staying at Disney World hotels (and select other hotels) can plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance. This advance purchase window allows you to secure your must-do rides and experiences after planning your dining reservations and other activities. You can purchase a Multi-Pass, a Single Pass, or both in a single transaction, depending on your needs.
The Opening of Tiana's Bayou Adventure
Get ready for a new adventure as Tiana's Bayou opens in June 2024, replacing Splash Mountain. This Princess and the Frog-themed attraction invites you to join Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis on a thrilling journey. Traverse winding waterways to find critter musicians who entertain at Tiana’s southern soiree. The adventure crescendos with a 50-foot drop that leads you to the grandest celebration this side of the Mississippi during Mardi Gras season!
Changes announced early this year...
Park Reservations No Longer Required
One of the most significant changes this year is the elimination of park reservations for most ticket types. Previously, guests were required to make advance reservations to secure entry to the parks. However, with the recent update, guests with standard theme park tickets can now enjoy greater flexibility and spontaneity in their park visits, as reservations are no longer needed for entry. Annual Passholders: While reservations are still required, Disney introduces "good-to-go days" starting January 11, 2024, allowing Passholders to visit without a reservation on select dates.
Park Hopping, Anytime!
Park hopping just got even more convenient with the introduction of a new policy allowing guests with Park Hopper tickets to switch between parks at any time of day. In the past, guests had to wait until 2 pm to park hop, but now they can do so whenever they choose. This flexibility allows guests to make the most of their Disney experience by exploring multiple parks in a single day, maximizing their time and enjoyment. No more waiting until 2 pm – seize the day and make the most of your magical moments.
The Return of Dining Plans
After theme park tickets, travel, and accommodations, the next significant component to consider for your Disney vacation is food. The Disney Dining Plan allows you to prepay for your favorite snacks, meals, and drinks before arriving, giving your vacation an all-inclusive feel. By planning ahead, you can even save money on your culinary adventures.
Guests using the plan are allocated a certain number of meal and snack credits for each night of their vacation, with the exact number and type depending on the selected plan. The redemption process is seamless, requiring a simple scan of a MagicBand+, MagicMobile pass, or Key to the World card.
There are two Dining Plans available. Choose the plan that suits your dining style:
Quick-Service Dining Plan: Ideal for a more casual approach, it includes two quick-service meal credits and one snack or drink credit per day, along with a resort-refillable drink mug.
Disney Dining Plan: For those desiring a mix of casual and table-service experiences, this plan includes one table-service meal, one quick-service meal, and one snack or drink per day, along with a resort-refillable drink mug.
Quick Tip: Make those dining reservations in advance for the best experience.
